PROJECT DETAILS:
The work is located at the Left Wing Dam (LWD), Right Wing Dam (RWD) and Main Dam spillway of Folsom Dam, approximately 29 miles upstream along the American River from the city of Sacramento, near the town of Folsom, north of the intersection of Auburn Folsom Road and Folsom Lake Crossing.
The Wing Dams component of the Project includes the construction of a reinforced L-shaped concrete floodwall, with a maximum height of 3.5-feet above the existing ground. The floodwall alignment is located at the LWD (approximately 2,162 feet long), RWD (approximately 6,730 feet long), LWD spur dike (approximately 310 feet long) and south of the Auxiliary Spillway Control Structure at an existing Folsom Reservoir bank along the site access road(approximately 165 feet long). Several utilities and security features will require relocation. A removable stoplog system approximately 20 feet wide will be framed and installed through the concrete flood wall near the tie-in location between the Main Dam and the LWD. The existing dam embankments will be excavated to a depth of approximately 7 to 8 feet below the existing crest elevation to construct the floodwall. A pavement section consisting of 8.5 inches of aggregate base and 3.5 inches of asphalt concrete will be constructed along the dam crest for access along most of the LWD and portions of the RWD near the Main Dam interface.
Main Dam Spillway work on all eight Tainter gates includes: structural retrofits to the trunnion anchorage system, structural reinforcing to strengthen gates, "top seal" structural headwalls installed above each gate, concrete pier extensions, new elevated hoist platforms, new cable hoist system with new electrical controls, and incidental related work.
