PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The new four-story PE Replacement Building at Santa Barbara City College will be approximately 77,000 square feet, designed as a Type IIA structure. The facility will house physical education and team sports programs, featuring locker rooms, showers, restrooms, an equipment room with laundry, a life fitness center, a gymnasium with bleachers and spectator areas, concessions, a dance studio, offices for coaches and faculty, departmental spaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, and other support areas. The project also includes new landscaping, hardscaping, and site improvements to enhance the campus environment.

Construction will involve the demolition and removal of the existing PE Building and adjacent structures, followed by site preparation, utility installations, and the construction of the new building. Key systems include plumbing, HVAC, electrical power, lighting, and signal systems, along with access controls, fire alarms, audio-video systems, and communications infrastructure. A wet-pipe fire suppression system will be provided on a design-build basis, with deferred approval by the Department of the State Architect.
